Advent
This is the first of 4 parts to explain the Advent Wreath.
Part 1
The Advent Wreath
There are seven pieces to the Advent Wreath that have much significance.
The first piece is the wreath itself.
The wreath is circular, and it represents God’s infiniteness and there is no breaking in His character or nature.
Also, each of the pieces attach and extend from this circular wreath, suggesting that every perfect gift comes from God.
The next piece is the candles. There are 4 surrounding candles, and the total number of candles together symbolizes the 400 years that passed between the prophet Malachi to the birth of Jesus Christ.
During these years, God was silent, but He would be silent no more!
Next, we enter each of the candles. Important to note with the lighting of each candle, more and more light displays.
Before the first candle is lit, there is complete darkness; when the first candle is lit, light penetrates into the darkness, dispelling it.
As more candles are lit, more and more darkness is dispelled, just as Jesus did by His coming!
The first candle lit is the Prophecy or Hope candle.
This candle represents all the Old Testament prophecies about the coming of Jesus Christ and the hope of a coming Messiah and Savior of the people of Israel.
